What it Takes to Cure Tinnitus - A Decade in Review

Dear Friends,

At times, there is an occasion that causes us to consider how far we’ve come and how much we’ve accomplished. Now is such a time for the American Tinnitus Association. As we look towards a new decade, we reflect on the contributions ATA has made toward a tinnitus cure.

Your involvement, and that of each and every supporter like you, has allowed us to realize tremendous success over the past decade. But our fight for the individuals who suffer from tinnitus has only just begun – we have so much more to achieve ahead of us.

Which is why I’m writing you to ask for a gift of support today. It’s only with the ongoing support of individuals like you that we can continue to search for a cure.

Silence is the very thing that tinnitus sufferers wish for – the quiet to hear a piece of music, or focus on a friendly voice, or just to rest their minds – and it’s the very thing that tinnitus steals. The only way to grant this wish is to end the silence that surrounds the understanding of this condition and raise our voices and focus our efforts towards finding a cure.

Together, the American Tinnitus Association and the researchers with whom we work have made tremendous progress in the last ten years.
  • It takes research…at the 2000 International Tinnitus Seminar, the focus was on treatment therapies, offering little hope of curing tinnitus to its sufferers. It wasn’t until 2005 that researchers from ATA’s Scientific Advisory Committee laid out the future direction of tinnitus research with their Roadmap To A Cure. Today, that journey continues with grants funded by our donors and through our advocacy efforts in our nation’s capitol.

  • It takes support…ATA has helped tens of thousands individuals living with tinnitus – from identifying health professionals, to providing information on tinnitus management options, to connecting members with support groups and volunteers in their area. We are dedicated to supporting and improving the everyday life of those who have tinnitus while the scientific community searches for that much coveted cure.

  • It takes each and every one of you…ATA member and tinnitus sufferer Donna Brown planned a climb up the face of Mt. Rainier to raise awareness and funds in the fight against tinnitus. In reaching the summit she fulfilled both a personal dream and raised a record amount of funds for tinnitus research – demonstrating a commitment to do her part to silence tinnitus forever. It’s a commitment you can echo with a gift to ATA today.
Together, we have moved mountains in Washington, D.C., and climbed mountains in Washington State. But there is so much more to do. We must find a cure for tinnitus and give its sufferers the peace and quiet so many take for granted every day.

The achievements of tomorrow rest on the shoulders and unwavering commitment of our donors. Join us in celebrating the accomplishments of the last ten years, and be a part of our efforts to propel our hard-won momentum into the next decade. Please give your most generous gift today to help silence tinnitus once and for all – it can’t happen without you!

Thank you,

Michael Malusevic
ATA Executive Director
